How to calculate square feet
Area (sq ft) = Length (ft) × Width (ft)
Example: a 12 ft × 10 ft bedroom is 120 sq ft, and a 10 ft × 10 ft kitchen 100 sq ft — 220 sq ft together (20.44 m² or 24.44 gaj).
- Feet and inches: convert inches to feet first — 12 ft 6 in = 12.5 ft.
- Metres: multiply the area in m² by 10.764 to get sq ft.
- L-shaped rooms: split them into two rectangles and add each one with “Add room / area”.

Carpet, built-up and super built-up area
- Carpet area — the usable floor inside the walls. Under RERA, builders must sell flats on carpet area.
- Built-up area — carpet area plus the thickness of walls and balconies; usually 10–15% more.
- Super built-up area — built-up area plus a share of lobbies, lifts, stairs and amenities; often 25–40% more than carpet area.
When comparing flats, compare the price per square foot of carpet area — a low super built-up rate can hide a small home.
Estimating cost per square foot
Enter a rate per sq ft to get the total cost — useful for flooring, tiles, painting, false ceilings, construction or property prices. Add 5–10% extra material for tiles and flooring to cover cutting and wastage.
